Introducing HERIZON: empowering women through safe and inclusive sport

HERIZON is a European cooperation project running from 1 November 2025 to 31 October 2027, co-funded by the Erasmus+ Programme of the European Union. The project was created to address persistent inequalities in sport by empowering girls and women, strengthening safeguarding practices, and promoting gender-inclusive environments — with a particular focus on field hockey.

Implemented by a partnership of sports and educational organisations from across Europe, HERIZON brings together expertise from grassroots sport, education, safeguarding, and youth work. The partnership is coordinated by Lazio Hockey Prato Giovani (Italy), with partners including Sant Cugat Creix (Spain), Associazione Pro Universitate Don Bosco ETS (Italy), and other European stakeholders committed to safe and inclusive sport.

The main objectives of HERIZON are to:

  • empower girls and young women through sport,
  • equip coaches and sports professionals with practical safeguarding knowledge,
  • raise awareness in schools and local communities,
  • and support sports organisations in building safer, more inclusive structures.

HERIZON matters because sport has enormous social power — but only when it is safe, fair, and accessible to all. By combining education, policy development, and international cooperation, the project turns shared European values into concrete actions that protect young athletes and open equal opportunities for future generations.
